BWF's Grant Application System
Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) requires all applications for this program to be submitted electronically through BWF's web-based grant application system. Preproposal applications must be submitted by February 17, 2014 by 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Applications submitted by a means other than electronically will not be reviewed.
Applicants are encouraged to start early and review the eligibility information, terms of grant, selection process, FAQs, proposal sections, and application instructions prior to beginning the online application.

Access the BWF grant application system through the links provided above. Create a log-in and password to gain access to the application.
Candidates are not required to complete the online application in one sitting. The application may be accessed and changed multiple times as needed prior to the application deadline. However, once the deadline has passed or the application has been submitted, the application cannot be changed.
The preproposal must include (1) data entered online in BWF's web-based grant application system, and (2) the following required attachments, uploaded to BWF's grant application system.
- Abstract (400 words or less; template provided)
- Biosketches/CV of the Co-directors (four page limit; template provided)
- Signature Page (template provided)
Instructions for attachments, along with any required templates, can be found in the Proposal Sections.
When all required fields have been entered and required attachments uploaded. a "Submit" button will be made available. Once the proposal application is complete, click the "Review and Submit" button.
You should receive a confirmation email once the proposal application is successfully submitted. If you do not receive email notification, please contact Jean Kramarik, via email or phone 919-991-5122.
A full application is by invitation only. Preproposals will be reviewed by the Advisory Committee and selected programs will be invited to submit a full application. Additional application instructions for the full application will be provided at that time.
