FAQ: Terms of Award
“Up to $20,000 of the award may be used annually for the grantee’s salary.” Does this include fringe benefits?
Yes.
May funds from this award be used to meet student tuition costs if they are participating in the grant?
No. Student tuition costs and fees are not covered under this award. However, there is no limit for paying student stipends or fringe benefits, e.g. insurance costs.
Must grantees devote at least 75% of their time to the project proposed with this application?
No. Grantees are required to spend at least 75% of their time in research-related activities in general. Time spent can be spread over multiple projects.
Are indirect costs allowed?
No. Indirect costs may not be charged against the grant.
Are grantees permitted to have other simultaneous funding, for example, from the National Institutes of Health (e.g. R01) or another foundation?
Yes, but it may not overlap with this award. If you have a BWF award and then are funded by another agency for the same project, only with BWF’s permission may a BWF award be directed toward new aims.
When will I be notified as to whether I have been selected as a finalist?
All applicants will be notified by late February of the following year. Finalist interviews will be conducted mid-April.
