Science Discovery Project
Program
The Science Discovery Project, a year-round program for students from James Martin Middle School, offers three components to encourage and enhance scientific exploration. The first component is an Afterschool Enrichment Program that extends the learning done in the traditional classroom and is interactive and collaborative. The second component is a Saturday Academy that builds on the afterschool activities and integrates field trips that address the particular pedagogical area under study. Finally, the Science Discovery Project incorporates a summer camp that involves two weeks of study, including a week at the University of Georgia’s Marine Summer Camp. This three-pronged effort exposes the participants to more and better experiences with the methodology and utility of scientific endeavors and with the value of science as a career option.
