Program

The Mentor Center at Shodor is a year-round program reaching 90 middle school and high school students in the Research Triangle Park area over a three-year period. The program matches talented young people with scientists and researchers who wish to be mentors and can provide these students with meaningful hands-on research driven explorations in computational science and related technologies, such as graphics, genomic databases, and scientific visualization. Students are paired with mentors and interns to work on innovative projects including the Computational Science Education Reference Desk and the National Science Digital Library.

Program period: year round

Eligibility: students in surrounding communities

Format

Summer workshops and internships for three-to-10 hours per week during the school year and fulltime during the summer.
