Awards will be made to North American degree-granting institutions on behalf of the named award recipients. The institutions are responsible for disbursing the funds and for maintaining adequate supporting records and receipts of expenditures. Indirect charges may not be charged against the grants. Travel grant to benefit applicant only (cannot be administered under another investigator's name and cannot include expenses for other personnel). This travel grant covers airfare, accommodations, meals, ground transportation, etc. in addition to lab supplies and material expenses on behalf of the award recipient.  Grants do not include support for the recipient’s spouse or family. BWF will allow up to $500 of the travel grant to be used to cover incidental expenses accrued by the host. This cost is in addition to supplies and materials budget.  Candidates who begin travel before notification of grant approval will not receive funding. After grants are made, visits cannot be modified without permission from BWF.

Within eight weeks of completion of travel, the recipient must submit to BWF a brief report outlining the work that was accomplished and the recipient’s institution must submit a financial report. Forms will be provided by BWF and available on this website. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2014 (no exceptions). 

Scientific publications or presentations that result from the visit must acknowledge the award recipient’s receipt of a Burroughs Wellcome Fund Collaborative Research Travel Grant.

Award recipients should share scientific findings in a timely manner via the standard means of scientific communication, including publications and/or presentations in scientific forums. BWF will not retain any rights to published results or patents that result from the research.
