General Information
Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) requires all preproposal applications for this program be submitted electronically through BWF’s web-based grant application system. Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements for this award may self-nominate by submitting an electronic preproposal by November 19, 2012, at 4:00 p.m., Eastern Time. There will be no exceptions to the deadline.
Preproposals will be reviewed by the Regulatory Science Advisory Committee and selected candidates will be invited to submit a full application. All applicants will be notified in early March 2013 as to whether they have been selected to submit a full application. Notifications will be sent via email, using the email address submitted in the preproposal application. Additional application instructions for the full application will be posted on this website in early February 2013.
Applicants submitting a preproposal are encouraged to start early and review the program background information, eligibility requirements, selection process, and FAQS prior to beginning the preproposal application.
A complete preproposal application consists of the following:
- Online data entry of applicant and general preproposal information.
- Upload of requested attachments in a single PDF file.
BWF's Grant Application System Instructions
Access the BWF grant application system through links provided above. Create a log-in and password to gain access to the Eligibility Quiz. You must first take the eligibility quiz to determine if you are eligible to apply. Successful completion of the eligibility quiz will be required to begin the preproposal application process. Once begun, the preproposal application may be accessed and changed multiple times as needed prior to submission by clicking the “Access a saved application” link above. However, once the preproposal application has been submitted, it cannot be changed. Preproposal applications will not be accepted and submitted applications cannot be changed after the application deadline has passed. No exceptions.
The preproposal application must include (1) data entered online, (2) a two-to-four page NIH-style curriculum vitae (CV), including the most relevant publications, for each co-investigator, and (3) a completed two-page preproposal form. All documents must be converted to a Portable Document Format (PDF) and combined into one (1) PDF file, in the correct order, prior to being uploaded to the online application. (See Proposal Sections)
Use the following naming convention for the combined file: Last Name, First Name – Project Title (e.g., Smith, Sarah – Project Title). Be sure to save a copy of the completed documents for your records.
Do not include a cover letter or supplemental materials. If extra materials are included, your preproposal application will be rejected out of fairness to all applicants.
When all required fields have been entered and required attachments uploaded, a "Submit" button will be made available. Once the preproposal application is complete, click the "Review and Submit" button.
Once the preproposal application is successfully submitted, you should receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive email notification, please contact Debi Vought, Senior Program Associate, via email or phone 919-991-5116.
Once the preproposal application deadline has passed, preproposal applications will not be accepted and submitted applications cannot be changed. No exceptions.
