![]() Science Education Student Science Enrichment Program Duke University
Techtronics: Hands-on Exploration of Technology in Everyday Life is a school-year, academic enrichment program offered 2.5 hours per week to 40 students per year by Duke University as part of the after-school program at Rogers-Herr Middle School in the Durham Public Schools. Techtronics is ideally situated as staff are eager to offer students new science enrichment opportunities, and the majority of the student population at Rogers-Herr are from groups underrepresented in science and engineering. An overall objective of Techtronics is to inspire a passionate interest in science, engineering, and technology by introducing middle school students to four branches of engineering (electrical/computer, biomedical, mechanical, and civil) through hands-on team projects that relate technology to uses in everyday life. Techtronics aspires to promote scientific literacy and to demystify the application of technology. The program emphasizes improved quality in human life facilitated by advanced technology.
