Program

This year-round Smoky Mountain Heights program reaches nearly 4,500 middle school students and 1,050 high school students and provides paid internships for 26 high school students over a three-year period. With tremendous natural resources that attract both researchers and students, Great Smoky Mountains National Park provides an ideal setting to bring together science and education. The park features science in its education programs and works with students to advance scientific research. The “Parks as Classrooms” science education program and the high school internship program provide students with hands-on experience in inquiry-based learning to develop their interest and competence in science.
