WENDELL SCOTT FOUNDATION
DIRECTOR: Chinique Scott
PROJECT TITLE:Steer into STEM: Cultivating Minds, Engineering Futures
The expanded Steer into STEM/Camp Cultivation program aims to engage students who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM disciplines through immersive, hands-on enrichment experiences that foster curiosity, confidence, and career awareness. Designed to operate during school breaks and some weekends, the program combines team-based learning, real-world challenges, and interactive modules that bring STEM to life beyond the classroom. A cornerstone of this expansion is the integration of the STEM On Track platform, a motorsport-based STEM education initiative hosted on the Race Academy. Students will engage with interactive "Sprint" modules covering topics such as physics, engineering, data analysis, and design. These concepts are reinforced through the design and construction of race karts, culminating in a high-energy competition event that showcases student-built karts and highlights teamwork, innovation, and problem-solving. By integrating digital learning with hands-on application, students experience STEM principles in a distinctive and engaging environment. Involvement in industry partnerships, mentorship opportunities, and the final race event enhances students' connections to authentic STEM pathways and professional networks. By combining experiential learning with cutting-edge tools and collaborative challenges, Steer into STEM + Camp Cultivation + STEM On Track prepares students to thrive academically and envision their place in the STEM workforce. The program builds both skills and aspirations, equipping the next generation of diverse STEM leaders with the confidence and competence to succeed.
