DURHAM, N.C. — A new peer-reviewed article published in Frontiers in Psychology explores the evolving science of consciousness and calls for a more integrated, interdisciplinary framework for understanding one of humanity’s oldest and most complex questions: what consciousness is, how it emerges, and why it matters for human health and flourishing.
The review article, “Illuminating Consciousness,” was authored by Conor Murray, Kafui Dzirasa, Dana Sawyer, Karen Waconda-Lewis, Landon Pollack, and Louis J. Muglia. Published in the journal’s Consciousness Research and Mindfulness section, the paper synthesizes perspectives from neuroscience, philosophy, medicine, contemplative traditions, and systems thinking to propose a more holistic approach to the study of consciousness.
