Louis J. Muglia, MD, PhD
President and CEO
Dr. Muglia is the President and CEO of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. His tenure began in January 2020.
Prior to joining the Fund, Dr Muglia was the Vice Chair for Research, A. Graeme Mitchell Chair of the Division of Human Genetics, Co-Director of the Perinatal Institute and Director of the Center for Prevention of Preterm Birth at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Scott Schoedler
Vice President, Finance
Mr. Schoedler is responsibile for all financial aspects of the Fund’s operation. This includes oversight of the Fund’s investment program, as well as accounting, insurance, and benefits administration.
Mr. Schoedler joined BWF in 1994 from the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, where he was Senior Asset Manager, Marketable Securities for the Foundation’s $2.2 billion endowment. His prior financial experiences include stints at Unisys Corporation and NCR Corporation. He has a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from Duke University.

Assists the VP of Finance in managing the investment portfolio and treasury responsibilities; assists the program staff in non-profit compliance issues and grant disbursement planning; manages the accounting function including coordinating an annual external audit, budgeting, cash flow analysis, and taxes

Oversees the external communication strategy for BWF and the N.C. Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center. He also serves as the secretary for the Board of Directors.

Responsible for overseeing all hardware and software development for the Fund’s web site, as well as general hardware and software setup, backup, and maintenance, and all audio-visual equipment in the meeting rooms.

Assists the senior manager of facilities and administration with site services, routine maintenance, and other operational-related activities surrounding the building and grounds.
